Small Thing, Great Impact

This post brought to you by The Walmart Foundation. All opinions are 100% mine.

It would break my heart knowing that our children or grandchildren wouldn't have any food on the table and had to go hungry. I would go out of my ways to help and to prevent they would have to experience that. Unfortunately, there are over 50 million Americans who know too well what it is like not being able to provide a meal for themselves and/or their families due to unemployment and a decrease in donations to charity and food banks.

We can all help out and it takes very little to do so; simply go to Walmart's Facebook site and Vote to fight spring hunger with Walmart. This nationwide Fighting Hunger Together initiative runs from Monday, April 9 through April 30, 2012, and is the result of the collaboration of Walmart, Feeding America, ConAgra, General Mills, Kraft, and Kellogg's to provide hunger relief.

During this period you can vote on Facebook for one of the 200 communities with the highest unemployment rate as determined by this Department of Labor Report. The winning community, announced on May 1st, will receive a $1 million donation from Walmart and 20 runners-up will each receive $50,000 to provide some relief to families in need. I would vote for a community in my own state which would be Gadsden in Alabama.

When doing your grocery shopping between April 9 and April 30, pay attention to the signs in the stores and the packaging of the renowned brands mentioned above. By buying those products, you participate in Fighting Hunger Together and are donating meals to Feeding America or Action for Healthy Kids, a nonprofit fighting childhood hunger.

So, vote on Facebook during April 9-30, buy the special products, and don't forget to spread the word. It is a small thing to do, but with a great impact!
