Bull's Eye
Date of occurrence:
August 3, 2017.
I happened to find out Emmaly doesn't have a robe at all and she would love to have one. I can imagine, because she is always complaining about being cold in the mornings and cuddles up in a blanket.
We decide to rectify the situation by ordering a robe for her which we think she might like. Since her Birthday is coming up in a couple of months, we intend it to be an early Birthday present which she can take home and enjoy in the mean time.
We pick it up this afternoon and, curious as she is, she is trying to find out what is in the bag. We don't tell or show her until we get home.
When we get in, I kind of give her the following order: "Emmaly, go to Opa in the office."
Emmaly: "Why?"
Me: "Just go. I will be there in a second."
Emmaly goes into the office and is a little confused. She hasn't got a clue why she needs to be there.
Opa, who knows the score: "And what are you doing here?"
Emmaly: "I don't know. Oma told me to go to you."
I walk in carrying the bag.
Me: "You know your Birthday is in October and Opa and Oma will not be there to celebrate."
Emmaly, a little sad: "Yes, I know."
Me: "Well, last year we sent you some money, but this year we thought we give you an early Birthday present so you can take it home and use it."
Her eyes light up. She takes the bag and pulls out the robe. I can tell by the puzzled look on her face that she doesn't know what she is holding in her hands. I take it from her and hold it up to where it is obvious.
Her eyes grow wide.
Her jaw drops to the floor.
The biggest smile you can imagine appears on her face.
Total excitement takes over as she says: "A ROBE! It's a robe. I always wanted one!"
She puts it on and can't get over the fact how soft and warm it is.
She wears it all evening. Takes it off to eat, so it won't get dirty. Puts it back on and even covers herself with it as she goes to sleep.
It is obvious; she is elated with her present and Opa says: "We scored a bull's eye."
We certainly did!
