A Hard Nut To Crack
Date of occurrence:
September 5, 2017.
As Kc and I were talking, I found out he had never had a taste of a real coconut before. He loves coconut and I thought it would be a good idea to get one and let him experience opening, extracting, and savoring the real deal.
The coconut was quickly bought and now it is a matter of following the instructions on how to get the milk out. The first hole opens up real easy. The second one gives some resistance, but we finally are able to pour out the contents.
Apparently, we have the wrong coconut. It clearly says on the label that the milk is not suitable for drinking, so we throw it out and focus on how to crack the nut.
I am trying to find our machete, but realize one of our loved ones borrowed it and hasn't brought it back. Okay..., now what? Opa suggest to use the hammer. Good idea.
We get the tool and go outside to give it a few good hits. That is easier said then done, but eventually the nut cracks into several large pieces. Both Kc and I take a bite of the meat and almost immediately spit it out.
Kc: "Eww, that tastes like soap."
Me: "Yeah, that coconut is no good."
Upon closer examination I see the meat is starting to rot in a few places. Yup, it is an old one and no longer fit for consumption.
Me: "Sorry, little man. We will try again another time. At least now you know how what it takes to open a coconut."
Kc nods. He knows.
It is a hard nut to crack!
