Turf And Surf
Date of occurrence:
October 21, 2017.
As I am making coffee, I see a van turn into our driveway. It is our youngest daughter with Lily and Isabella. I open the door and she asks if we are up for some company. Sure, anytime.
We bring out the toys and the girls start playing right away while we and their Mom catch up. A bit later our youngest daughter suggest to cook us some supper. She has a hankering for surf and turf on the barbeque.
We don't mind and she gets the groceries. When she gets back I set fire to the coals and the food goes on the barbie. Since the weather is nice, we stay outside for the duration of the cooking and Bell and Lily play to their hearts content.
Suddenly, I spot Max sitting under the storage building. Yes, we have two turtles in our yard now. One is Wink, she is a box turtle. Max is the newcomer and is a gopher turtle. Max has taken up residency under our storage building.
I get some bread and Bell and Lily feed him. Lily is fascinated and sits in front of him. She calls me: "Omai, Omai. Com ere!"
I sit down next to her.
Lily, pointing at Max: "Bite?"
Me: "No, sweetie. Max doesn't bite".
Lily: "No bite?"
Me: "No. He is afraid of you, so don't get too close. He will walk away"
She lays down in the grass. Her face is about a foot away from Max. She watches him as he eats and calls out to him: "Com ere. Com ere!"
Surprisingly, Max stays where he is at. Lily keeps watching him until it is time to go in. She sure doesn't want to and it takes a bit of persuasion to get her to say bye bye to Max.
We enjoy a really nice meal and Lily, in her own way, tells Opa about the 'tutle' as she calls it.
When it is time for them to leave, we get a hug and tell them we love them.
Bella answers: "Love you too."
Lily answers as well and we laugh after her response.
Lily: "I love me too."
I can't blame her.
What's not to love?!
