Superguy Is Flat But Grand

Contributed by Milford Woods

What kind of superhero never escapes the confines of a cup? It's a pretty silly idea, but "Sesame Street" has successfully presented it for years. Whenever I come across a rerun on miami direct tv, I stop to watch the exploits of the Teeny Little Super Guy, an unassuming gentleman who's painted on the side of a glass.

Teeny Little Super Guy was created by Paul Fierlinger and appeared in 13 episodes, each of which is extremely short. Nonetheless, these are exciting little stories for youngsters, who love to giggle over the exploits of this expressive man who always wears a hat and is heralded with a jazzy theme song. His exploits may be uncomplicated, but they always bring a smile.

"Sesame Street" has delved into the idea of superheroes more recently as well, since Grover has begun to don a cape and helmet in order to fly around the world and become acclimated to different cultures. The main purpose of this segment is to increase awareness of other lifestyles around the world, but the superhero element adds a lot of fun, and it's gratifying to see this bumbling character in a heroic role.

Little children enjoy superheroes as much as adults do, and thanks to high-quality shows like "Sesame Street," they can get a kick out of larger than life characters created just for them.
