The Determination

Date of occurrence:
August 31, 2019.

Kc has one more requirement to fulfill before he is finally finished with his Cooking Merit Badge. Yes, finally. It took him over a year to get it all done.

A hike and two meals for the hikers is on the menu today. One of those meals has to be cooked. Kc is packed and ready and off we go.

Our destination is a park which has both hiking trails and where it is permitted to make a fire.

After a little while, we are all hungry.

Kc gets all his gear and food out and starts a fire.

That is easier said then done.

The wood is rather wet and the fire goes out several times.

Kc is getting rather frustrated.

Opa suggests it may be good to try it another day.
Kc: "No. I am not gonna quit!"
He tries some more, but to no avail.

Opa: "Are you sure you don't want to give up? The wood is rather wet. It's okay if you want to do it another time."
Kc, very determined: "NO! I am going to make a fire. Let me find some drier wood."

He goes off and comes back with wood that seems to be dry. He tries again and this time he gets a good fire going.

He cooks the meal, serves it, and finishes his requirement.

We are so proud of him. It was hard, but he refused to quit.

He sure is building a strong character! :-D
