Shingles

Date of occurrence:
January 7, 2011.

Arghh, I came down with the Shingles and besides the excruciating pain and the itching, which is driving me up the wall, it has more negative consequences; I can't be around our grand children.

Even though they had their shots, we don't want to take the risk of them ending up with chickenpox. Even if they didn't, someone in their surroundings may not have had chickenpox and could get it.

I didn't know it, but shingles are caused by the chickenpox virus, which lingers in certain areas of the nervous system and can get active later in life, resulting in shingles.

Practically every one in two persons who had chickenpox are likely to get shingles and can infect others who haven't had chickenpox yet.

As long as there are blisters and scabs, you are either contagious or infectious and should try to stay away from people who haven't had the chickenpox. Once the scabs are gone, it is safe, but all together that can take up to 30 days.

I will miss our little critters, sigh.
