The Money Pit

Date of occurrence:
January 1, 2016.

A very Happy and healthy New Year to all of you! Ours started off a little weird.

The kids came over to stay with us and arrived around 12:30 pm. I was in the middle of cooking dinner and Opa put a movie on to keep them occupied until it was time to eat. They all had taken a seat on the couch and were watching intensely, when all of a sudden Kc almost choked.

Alert and concerned as Opa is, he immediately asked Kc if he could breath and was okay. It took a few seconds before our little man nodded and rather embarrassed declared that he just swallowed a quarter.

You did WHAT???? How did that happen?

It turns out he was watching the movie, had to cough suddenly, quickly put his hand in front of his mouth and forgot he was holding a quarter. The fast hand-to-mouth movement propelled the quarter in the back of his throat and the reflex action was to swallow, which he did.

Opa immediately calls our daughter to let her know what happened and to find out where to go from here. I am not in panic mode. I have heard of kids digesting cash, and even weirder objects for that matter, and am convinced nature has to run its course.

Mom looks on the Internet and tells us to let her know if he starts complaining about any pain. Low and behold, a few hours later Kc says his tummy hurts and Mom takes him to the ER.

He gets an X-ray, is examined, sent home with the advice to be watched closely and see the pediatrician on Tuesday for another X-ray ensuring the foreign object has left the premises. We don't need X-rays for that. I am pretty sure what goes in will come out.

I am just not looking forward to the fragrant task of checking the 'outcome' of this little money pit!
