Force

One thing we can not do is force our children to do what we believe is best for our grandchildren. That can be very frustrating and is not easy when it clashes with our own believes. We have to keep in mind though that our children are grown ups, have their own set of values and should be able to make their own decisions regarding our grandchildren, whether we agree with them or not.

The biggest mistake we usually make is that we take it personal, but it is not. Even though it seems like they are disregarding and disrespecting our feelings and our point of view, they base their decision on what is important to them and they believe is best for their children.

We have every right to share with our children our considerations, feelings, thoughts and experiences on the subject matter. We can only hope they will at least listen to our part and consider it. Sharing our outlook is as far as our responsibility goes though; the decision is up to them and the choice they make is their responsibility.

Trying to force our way could and probably would result in an argument and may very well end up driving our children away from us. Even though it may be extremely difficult to accept and respect their choice, they have their own life and live it the way they want and see fit.

Yeah, I know; it is hard to let go. :-)

God's Grace.
