Leading By Example

Our oldest grandson was staying with us when we had family over from the Netherlands and it was so funny watching the puzzled look on his face, while listening to the conversations held in this unbeknownst language.

He even was taught a Dutch children's song and since he had no notion what it was about, I translated it for him. Even though it was not an official translation, he quickly grasped the concept and enjoyed it to the fullest.

It is not always easy to translate something to the letter, but it can be crucial at times. Especially when it comes to business related documents, you want to make sure to use a certified translation service to avoid any and all misunderstandings.

In the song's case, it didn't have to be so accurate and professional and although the translation came close to being literal, it certainly wasn't one of those certified translations you could and should expect from an expert.

I don't know if our grandchildren would ever be interested in learning my native tongue, but I certainly hope they will. They might even take it a step further and achieve the goal of being able to provide notarized translations to those who need it.

It sure would be something for me to look into as well, after all; we lead by example!
